Jason Helliwell, MD, FACOG, FACS

Dr. Helliwell grew up in Thousand Oaks, California graduating from Thousand Oaks High School. He then attended the University of California, San Diego where he earned a B.S. Degree in biochemistry and cell biology. Dr. Helliwell speaks the Spanish language fluently. Enjoying activities such as surfing and hiking, Dr. Helliwell remained at UCSD obtaining his medical degree. Specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Helliwell performed extensive research and internships, as well as publishing several articles in academic journals pertaining to the subject of OB/GYN.

Dr. Helliwell's first two years of residency were at the world-renowned Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then decided to obtain valuable experience at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for the remaining years of his residency.

After completing residency Dr. Helliwell practiced with Kaiser Permanente and obtained his board certification in OB/GYN. His wife Siniva is also an OB/GYN doctor here in Bakersfield. Dr. Helliwell always wanted to start his own private practice where he could provide superior care to his patients with a personal aspect. Dr. Helliwell saw the need for superior quality OB/GYN care in Bakersfield and has opened the Advanced Women's Health Center.

Siniva L. Kaneen, MD, FACOG

Dr. Siniva Kaneen was born and raised in Southern California. She attended the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine and graduated in June of 2001. Dr. Kaneen completed her post graduate medical training in June of 2005 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA with her specialty in OB/GYN. Her husband is also an M.D. with his specialty in OB/GYN as well. He initially made the move to Bakersfield a year ago and Dr. Kaneen joined him this year after her residency program at Cedars-Sinai was complete. Dr. Kaneen loves to travel, has a passion for fitness and cooking.

Brandi Drewry
Ultrasound & DXA Scan Technician

Hello! I'm Brandi Drewry, Dr. Helliwell's Ultrasonographer and DXA Scan technician!.

I graduated the Abdominal, Ob/Gyn, & Vascular program in 1999 from Modern Technology Ultrasound School in Anaheim, California. After graduation I moved back to the valley and began my career as an Ultrasound Tech working in local hospitals. Soon after I began working, I realized I loved the field of Ob/Gyn. I have specialized in this field for the past three years.

I am happily married to Scott, a Bakersfield Police Officer. I am a mother of two children and I understand how exciting this time is. I look forward to sharing these once-in-a-lifetime moments with you. I am one of those people who truly look forward to coming to work every day. I can't wait to meet you soon.

Elyse Watkins Physician's Assistant

Elyse joins our group with 15 years of experience as a physician assistant. She was raised in upstate New York, received her BA degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990, graduated from The George Washington University in 1993 and moved to Bakersfield immediately after graduation. In 2001, Elyse also earned her Master's degree in Health Care Management from Cal State Bakersfield.

While physician assistant training is generally family practice oriented, Elyse always knew her passion was women's health. She has been working exclusively in OB/GYN practice since 1999 and has a particular interest in bioidentical hormones as well as the spiritual aspects of healing.

When not at work here at Advanced Women's Health Center, she raises her three wonderful children with her husband Matthew. Elyse also enjoys painting and volunteering at her church.

Carrie Thomas, Office Manager

Carrie moved to Bakersfield in 2003 with her two children, and married her husband in 2006. She graduated Santa Barbara Business College in 2006, specializing in Medical Front Office Systems. Her internship was done at Advanced Women's Health Center in Aug. 2006 and she started working for AWHC in Sept. 2006 as a Receptionist. She has sinced worked here way up to the possition of office manager..

Carrie loves working for Advanced Women's Health Center. She truly cares about each and every patient, and making sure their visit is a pleasant experience.
